"Yaki(baked) curry" which is made by baking steamed rice with curry and cheese in the oven, is a specialty of "Mojiko Retro". Mojiko opened in 1889 as a sea port and prospered. However, it declined due to the opening of Kanmon Tunnel in 1958. Therefore, aiming to revive the port city, the city government renovated the old buildings and made it possible to launch “"Mojiko Retro" in 1995. Being drawn by its diverse attractions, such as its romantic nightscapes, the number of visitors to this area exceeded 2.42 million last year.
ご飯にカレーを乗せ、チーズなどをトッピングしてオーブンで焼き上げた「焼きカレー」。これは「門司港レトロ」エリアの名物です。門司港は1889年に開港し、横浜、神戸とともに「日本三大港」に数えられましたが、1958年の関門トンネル開通で衰退していきました。そこで市が港町復活を目指し、ＪＲ門司港駅や旧門司三井倶楽部など古き良き時代の建物を整備する再開発事業を行い1995年に誕生したのが「門司港レトロ」。ロマンチックな夜景など多彩な魅力にひかれ、昨年のこのエリアへの訪問客は242万人超。最近は中国からの団体客も増えています。
